Favorite Cookbooks: Jamie at Home

It's been more than a year and I'm still working through this inspirational collection of seasonal recipes. Frankly, I'm appalled it's taking me so long when everything I make turns out lovely. Jamie Oliver, my cooking icon, uses veggies as the centerpiece in the majority of the recipes grouped here and every passthrough I find something droolworthy. One of my favorite recipes, the Asparagus and Potato Tart , has made numerous dinner appearances, despite the pitfalls of creating a filo crust. Grrr, filo. Although many recipes have meat in them, it's usually either something that's simple to leave out or something I'm inspired to make with a meat substitute. Vegan and Vegetarian Slow Cooker/ Crock Pot Recipe I love slow cooker recipes for the same reason as most people - being able to place some ingredients into a pot, turn the switch on, forget about it for a few hours then return to your kitchen to be welcomed by a delicious aroma of a freshly cooked meal all warm and cooked to perfection ready to be served to a room of hungry loved ones. I use a combination of spices, garlic and tomato paste for the seasoning and use carrots, potatoes, turnips, green beans and more for the bulk of the stew. Clam, Halibut and Sweet Corn Chowder

If you enjoy clam chowder, I think you will love this recipe! We are so fortunate to have friends who love to cook and enjoy finding new recipes to prepare for and share with each other. On one such occasion, we were served this delicious chowder. I enjoyed it so much, I couldn't wait to make it myself. Our friend gladly shared the recipe and her adaptations, which I am sharing with you. This is a perfect, late summer/early fall chowder. Sweet corn season is nearing its end here, so if you can't get fresh sweet corn at the farmers' market any longer, it's okay to use the sweet corn from your grocer. When our friend made this for us, she didn't use the fish called for in the recipe but used a larger quantity of clams.
